Installing Fonts on Linux

• May need to install the fontconfig package with sudo apt install fontconfig to get fc-list, fc-cache` etc 20260614T221940
• Run fc-list to see a list of installed fonts 20260614T221940
• For user-specific fonts, add the font files to ~/.local/share/fonts or a sub-folder 20260614T221940
• For system-wide fonts, add the font files to /usr/local/share/fonts or a sub-folder 20260614T221940

• Manually re-build the font cache with fc-cache -fv 20260614T221940
• Some programs cache their fonts so might need to restart them to see newly installed fonts 20260614T221940
• If the font file is not being picked up by fc-cache, it may be because the file is zipped, even if the file ending is for a font such as .ttf. Check using file <font-file> See ExtractZipFile if so 20260614T221940

Installing Microsoft TrueType Fonts

If you want to install mscorefonts you may need to manually download packages.debian.org/en/sid/all/ttf-mscorefonts-installer/ since the version in the Ubuntu repositories is broken. Not sure if this is still true. It might still be worth checking out sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer 20260614T221940
